Ê-sai 32:1
Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.

Study Note
The vision of a king who reigns in righteousness and princes who rule in justice presents a messianic ideal that inverts the corrupt leadership critique running through Isaiah's earlier chapters. The verse opens a brief messianic portrait (32:1-8) before returning to oracle material, functioning as a foil to the princes condemned in Isaiah 1-12. Christian exegetes from Justin Martyr onward identified this king with Christ, and the detail that 'a man shall be as a hiding place from the wind' (32:2) was read as an anticipation of Christ as refuge. The broader unit (32:1-20) moves through judgment and restoration to the outpouring of the Spirit (32:15), connecting righteous rule with pneumatological renewal.
