Old Testament

Oholibah was a symbolic name given to Jerusalem, representing the southern kingdom of Judah in Ezekiel's prophecy.

Oholibah was the allegorical name given to Jerusalem—representing the southern kingdom of Judah—in Ezekiel's parable of the two adulterous sisters (Ezekiel 23). Her name means 'my tent is in her,' possibly alluding to God's presence in the Jerusalem temple. The prophecy depicts Oholibah as even more corrupt than her sister Oholah, pursuing alliances and syncretism first with Assyria and then with Babylon, the very nation that would destroy her. The parable served as Ezekiel's indictment of Judah's political and religious faithlessness.
