Darkness
The absence of light, symbolizing evil, ignorance, judgment, and separation from God. The ninth plague on Egypt was three days of darkness (Exodus 10:21-23). Darkness covered the land during Jesus' crucifixion (Matthew 27:45). Jesus described hell as 'outer darkness' (Matthew 8:12, 22:13). John 3:19 explains, 'Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.' Ephesians 5:8 reminds believers, 'You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.' Colossians 1:13 celebrates God who 'rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.'
