Bigthan, a doorkeeper in Ahasuerus' court, plotted to assassinate the king but was exposed by Mordecai.
Bigthan (also called Bigthana) was a doorkeeper in the court of King Ahasuerus of Persia who, along with Teresh, plotted to assassinate the king (Esther 2:21–23; 6:2). Mordecai discovered the conspiracy and reported it to Queen Esther, who informed the king in Mordecai's name. When the plot was investigated and confirmed, both Bigthan and Teresh were hanged on the gallows. The record of Mordecai's service in the royal annals later became instrumental in saving Mordecai's life when Haman sought his destruction.
