Old Testament

Adino the Eznite, also known as Josheb-Basshebeth, was one of David's mighty men who wielded his spear against eight hundred men.

The Eznites are mentioned in 2 Samuel 23:8 in connection with Josheb-basshebeth (or Adino the Eznite), identified as the chief of David's three mightiest warriors. The reference is textually difficult—the parallel in 1 Chronicles 11:11 does not use this designation—and many scholars understand 'Eznite' as a corruption of a title or epithet rather than a true clan name. The verse records that this warrior raised his spear against eight hundred men and killed them in a single engagement.
