Old Testament

Iram was an Edomite chief, a descendant of Esau.

Iram was an Edomite chief, a descendant of Esau listed in the roster of Edomite clans in Genesis 36:43 and 1 Chronicles 1:54. The Edomite chief list provides a record of the tribal leadership structure in the land of Edom in the period before Israel's monarchy. Iram's name and his designation as a chief (Hebrew: alluph) indicate he led one of the territorial divisions of the Edomite nation.
