Pethahiah, head of the 19th priestly division in the time of David.

Pethahiah was the head of the nineteenth priestly division organized by David for the rotation of priestly service at the sanctuary (1 Chronicles 24:16). The twenty-four priestly courses each served for one week twice a year, providing a regular structure for the cultic life of Israel. A Levite named Pethahiah also appears in the post-exilic period as a leader in Ezra's reform assembly (Ezra 10:23) and as a royal representative to the Persian king under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 11:24).
