Shimeon was one of the Israelite men who had married foreign wives during the Babylonian exile and is listed in Ezra 10:31 among those who dissolved these marriages in compliance with Ezra's reform. His name appears only in this post-exilic register of those who participated in the community's efforts to maintain religious distinctiveness.
