Tiglath-pileser, also known as Pul, was an Assyrian king who conquered parts of Israel and received tribute from King Menahem.

Tiglath-pileser III (also called Pul in 2 Kings 15:19), king of Assyria from 745 to 727 BC, was one of the most powerful rulers of the ancient Near East and a major figure in the decline of the northern kingdom of Israel. He received tribute from King Menahem of Israel (2 Kings 15:19–20), later deported Israelite populations from Gilead, Galilee, and Naphtali (2 Kings 15:29), and responded to an appeal from Ahaz of Judah by attacking Damascus and killing its king Rezin (2 Kings 16:7–9). His policy of mass deportation fundamentally reshaped the ethnic composition of the northern territories.
