Zipporah

Exodus & Wilderness Midian · H6855
Old Testament

Zipporah, the daughter of Jethro, was Moses' wife and the mother of his two sons, Gershom and Eliezer.

Zipporah was the daughter of Jethro (Reuel), the priest of Midian, and became the wife of Moses after Moses helped her and her sisters water their flocks at a well in Midian (Exodus 2:16–22). She bore Moses two sons, Gershom and Eliezer. During the journey back to Egypt, in a mysterious episode at a lodging place, Zipporah circumcised her son and touched Moses's feet with the foreskin, apparently averting a divine threat against Moses (Exodus 4:24–26). Her sister is mentioned in Numbers 12:1 in the context of Aaron and Miriam's criticism of Moses's Cushite wife.
