Zohar was the father of Ephron the Hittite, from whom Abraham purchased the cave of Machpelah as a burial site.
Zohar was a Hittite, the father of Ephron from whom Abraham purchased the cave of Machpelah near Mamre as a burial site for Sarah (Genesis 23:8; 25:9). The transaction is described in careful legal detail in Genesis 23, including the formal negotiation at the city gate in the presence of the Hittites. A second Zohar appears in Genesis 46:10 as a son of Simeon, and the name also appears in the genealogy of Judah (1 Chronicles 4:7 as 'Izhar,' a variant).
