The catching up of believers to meet Christ at his return, based primarily on 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: 'The Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command... and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.' The Latin word raptura translates the Greek harpazo ('caught up'). Christians hold differing views on the rapture's timing relative to the tribulation — pre-tribulation, mid-tribulation, or post-tribulation. First Corinthians 15:51-52 adds, 'We will all be changed — in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye.'
