Nota de estudio

Study Note

'Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.' The claim is implicitly messianic: Jewish teaching universally agreed that Torah would endure forever (Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 1:25 echoes 'the word of the Lord endureth for ever'). By claiming greater permanence for his own words than for heaven and earth, Jesus situates his authority above all created order. The verse closes a section on cosmic upheaval (sun, moon, stars failing) with the one stability that survives every cataclysm — the word of the Son, who is himself the creative Word through whom heaven and earth were made (John 1:1-3).
