False and damaging speech about another person, consistently condemned in Scripture. Leviticus 19:16 commands, 'Do not go about spreading slander among your people.' Psalm 101:5 declares, 'Whoever slanders their neighbor in secret, I will put to silence.' Proverbs 10:18 warns, 'Whoever spreads slander is a fool.' Ephesians 4:31 commands believers to rid themselves of 'slander, along with every form of malice.' First Peter 2:1 instructs, 'Rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.' James 4:11 warns, 'Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another.' The devil himself is the slanderer (diabolos), and slander reflects his character rather than God's.
