Something of supreme value, used by Jesus to describe the kingdom of God and the true priorities of life. Matthew 13:44 compares the kingdom to 'treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.' Matthew 6:19-21 teaches, 'Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth... But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.' Second Corinthians 4:7 speaks of 'this treasure in jars of clay' — the gospel's glory carried by frail humans. Colossians 2:3 identifies Christ as the one 'in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.'
