Study Note
Nebuchadnezzar's restoration-declaration — 'those that walk in pride he is able to abase' — is the personal testimony of the greatest king of the ancient world after a divinely imposed season of humiliation. The narrative of Nebuchadnezzar's pride, madness, and restoration (Daniel 4) is unique in the Hebrew Bible as a pagan king's first-person testimony to divine sovereignty. James 4:6 and 1 Peter 5:5 ('God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble') articulate the same principle as a timeless truth drawn from exactly the kind of historical case Daniel 4 provides.
