The process of making someone or something holy, set apart for God's purposes. Exodus 29 details the elaborate consecration of priests, involving washing, special garments, anointing oil, and sacrificial blood. Leviticus 20:7-8 commands, 'Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God.' The Nazirite vow (Numbers 6:1-21) was a voluntary act of heightened consecration. Joshua told Israel, 'Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you' (Joshua 3:5). In the New Testament, Jesus consecrated himself for his redemptive mission (John 17:19), and believers are called to live consecrated lives.
