The joy of returning home, exemplified supremely in the parable of the prodigal son. Luke 15:20-24 describes the father running to embrace his returning son, placing a robe, ring, and sandals on him and throwing a feast. The return from Babylonian exile was a national homecoming: 'When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter' (Psalm 126:1-2). Isaiah 35:10 envisions the redeemed returning 'with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads.' For believers, the ultimate homecoming is being welcomed into the Father's house (John 14:2-3). Every earthly homecoming echoes this eternal return.
