Jesus' final meal with his disciples before his crucifixion, during which he instituted the Lord's Supper. Taking bread, he said, 'This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me' (Luke 22:19). Taking the cup, he declared, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you' (Luke 22:20). John's Gospel records Jesus washing the disciples' feet (John 13:1-17), giving the new commandment of love (John 13:34-35), and delivering the Farewell Discourse (John 14-17). The Last Supper connected Passover to the cross, old covenant to new, and established the central sacramental practice of the Christian church across two millennia.
