The intentional practice of withdrawing from activity and company to be alone with God. Jesus regularly sought solitude: 'Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed' (Mark 1:35). Before choosing the twelve apostles, he 'went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God' (Luke 6:12). Moses encountered God alone on Sinai (Exodus 34:2). Elijah heard God's 'gentle whisper' in solitary retreat (1 Kings 19:12). Solitude creates space to hear God's voice, resist distraction, and align one's heart with divine purposes.
