Tito 3:3
For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

Study Note
The catalogue of vices — foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to passions, malice, envy, hateful — describes the pre-conversion condition of Paul's addressees, anchoring the subsequent grace-declaration (verses 4-7) in the contrast of 'then' and 'now.' The rhetorical move prevents a moralistic reading of Christian ethics: the 'once we were' reminds believers that their transformation is entirely a gift. Ephesians 2:1-5 employs the same contrast structure ('dead in sins... but God'), and both passages inform the Christian understanding of conversion as rescue rather than self-improvement.

for we were once--also we--thoughtless, disobedient, led astray, serving desires and pleasures manifold, in malice and envy living, odious--hating one another;
For in the past we were foolish, hard in heart, turned from the true way, servants of evil desires and pleasures, living in bad feeling and envy, hated and hating one another.
