Within Jeremiah's 'Book of Consolation' (chapters 30-33), the promise of 'one heart and one way' to fear God forever is part of the new covenant announcement that climaxes in 31:31-34. The interiority of the promised transformation — 'I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever' — echoes Deuteronomy's command to circumcise the heart (30:6) and Ezekiel's promise of a new heart and spirit (Ezekiel 36:26-27). The phrase 'for their good and for the good of their children after them' establishes that the new covenant blessing includes intergenerational continuity, not merely individual renewal. Paul's description of the Spirit writing on hearts (2 Corinthians 3:3) and the Letter to the Hebrews' extended exegesis of Jeremiah 31 both draw directly on this tradition.
