'Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding' — Wisdom's invitation in Proverbs 9 counterbalances Folly's seduction in verses 13–18, creating the book's sharpest two-way invitation structure: both Wisdom and Folly call from elevated positions to the simple, but with radically different destinations (life versus death). The imperative 'forsake' (azov — leave, abandon) implies that association with the foolish is itself a moral danger requiring active separation, anticipating Paul's 'bad company corrupts good character' (1 Corinthians 15:33). The verse belongs to the tradition connecting wisdom with life that culminates in John 1:4 ('In him was life; and the life was the light of men') — where Wisdom becomes incarnate.
