The application to the Son of Psalm 45:6 — 'Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever; a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom' — constitutes one of the most direct New Testament ascriptions of the divine title to Jesus. Psalm 45 was originally composed as a royal wedding hymn addressing an Israelite king with divine-like honor, and Hebrews' application of it to Jesus reads the ancient royal text as prophetically anticipating a uniquely divine ruler.
