The permanent presence of the Holy Spirit within every believer, a distinctive mark of the new covenant era. Romans 8:9 declares, 'If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.' First Corinthians 6:19 asks, 'Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you?' Ephesians 1:13-14 describes the Spirit as a 'deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.' Jesus promised, 'I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever — the Spirit of truth' (John 14:16-17). The indwelling Spirit enables understanding of Scripture (1 Corinthians 2:12), empowers holy living (Romans 8:13), and assures believers of their adoption (Romans 8:16).
